Campus Cable TV System
For repairs to TV cable connections, call (302) 831-6000, or use the service request form to report problems.
Did your TV have trouble finding channels?
Try these steps:
- Make sure TV is set to CATV-Cable TV and not Antenna.
- Use the Menu or Setup button on your remote to find the Auto tune or Auto program feature. Let the TV scan for available channels.
If your TV attempts to auto tune or auto program for channels but fails to find only a few, chances are your TV is searching for ATSC digital channels and not NTSC analog channels. Consult the user manual for your TV model to see if your TV contains a NTSC tuner. See the section below for more information.
Cable Channels
The University has its own cable television system. The cable system extends to all classrooms, lounges, dining areas, and all residence halls. The cable system is a hybrid digital and analog system. (See the section below labeled "What You Need to Hook Up Your TV.")
Find a list of all channels here.
- Take a look at Channel 2, the University of Delaware 24 hr/day information channel, which provides you with information on a variety of events and topics.
- Channel 20, the TV Guide Channel, offers an hourly listing of commercial channels available on the University's system.
- Channel 48 carries University of Delaware academic request programming.
- Channel 49, Student Television Network, carries programming produced and/or selected by University of Delaware students.
- Channel 52 offers Technology Help from the University. You'll find information on buying a computer, getting connected to the campus network, and using software.
The University's cable system receives local network-affiliated broadcast channels (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, etc.) and many cable channels (e.g., CNN, ESPN, MTV, BET, and Spike). Campus cable channels run from Channel 2 through Channel 73.
Cable TV in Residence Halls
Every UD residence hall room is wired for cable TV, so you can take advantage of the cable system in your room or apartment. The cable system also improves FM radio reception for stations from Philadelphia to Baltimore.
What You Need to Hook Up Your TV
To hook up your television, DVR, VCR, and FM tuner or receiver, you need one or more of the following items (some are available at the University Bookstore; the Christiana, Harrington, and Rodney Convenience Markets; or a local electronics store).
- To receive channels 2 through 69 televisions need an NTSC analog tuner, also called "Cable-Ready". Or, you may use any TiVo or other DVR unit that includes an NTSC analog tuner.
- To receive the new HD channels, televisions need a "clear QAM" or cable digital tuner. Or, you can use a TiVo HD or other HD DVR unit that includes a "clear QAM" digital tuner.
- A cable with cable TV-type ("f") fitting. You need a length of coaxial cable to connect your equipment to the wall outlet.
- Optional: A splitter. The wall outlet to the cable system allows for only one item in the television outlet. If you wish to install both a TV/VCR set up and an FM tuner or receiver, you need a splitter to create two plugs.
A television with only an ATSC tuner will not receive any channels.
Using a DVR on the University Cable System
You can also use a DVR (such as a TiVo) on the university cable system. Make sure that your DVR has an analog NTSC (also called "Cable-Ready") tuner. To receive the new HD channels, you need a "clear QAM" or digital cable ready DVR such as a TiVo HD. When searching for channel guides, use the university residence hall zip code of 19716.
