Description: Michael Robinson, author of the Coldest Crucible: Arctic Exploration and American Culture, unraveled the mystery of Arctic explorer Elisha Kent Kane who died in 1857 and up to that time had the largest funeral in American history on September 24, 2008 at the University of Delaware.

During the talk, Robinson projected historic images of American polar expeditions and is part of UD's William S. Carlson International Polar Year Events, named after the University's president from 1946-50, who was a polar explorer.
