Streaming RealMedia
IT-UMS/ITV supports the university RealMedia streaming server. Faculty are welcome to request audio and video content to be placed on the server for student playback through MyCourses.
Required File Format
All media files, both audio and video, must be in RealMedia format for proper playback on the streaming server. If your media is already in this format, you are almost done. If it is not, you may download the free version of RealProducer Basic for Windows from RealNetworks to convert your audio and video files into RealMedia files.
Suggested Settings
The suggested settings below are meant as guidelines only. One size doesn't always fit all.
- Video Image Size: 320 x 240
- Data Rate: 150Kbit/s
- Noise Reduction: High
- De-interlace: Automatic
- Video Codec: RealVideo 11
- Audio Codec: Music
All files should have the extension of .rm when finished.
Getting the Files Loaded
The easiest method of transporting the files is to create a CD-ROM, or if needed a DVD-ROM, of everything. Send this disc securely via campus mail with a note attached with the following information.
- Name of Professor
- UD Course ID
- Phone Number, Email Address
- Length of time before data expires
- Copyright clearance or explanation
All data will be deleted after 3 years. Discs cannot be returned and will be kept on file.
A Note About Copyright
